Maat participates in the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York

Being the President of the NGO Major Group in Africa

New York,Teleghraph, Maat: A delegation from Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights Association and the NGO Major Group of Africa; participates in the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development in the UN headquarters in New York. The forum takes place from the 9th till the 18th of July 2018. This year the forum discusses the progress achieved in regard to the implementation of the sustainable development goals 2030.

Maat Association participates as being the president of the NGO Major Group of Africa, which is represented by Mr. Ayman Okeil; the General Director of Maat Association and the chairman of the Africa NGO Major Group (NGO MG) and the Regional partner in North Africa, as well. In addition; Ms. Hagar Monsif Head of the Secretariat of NGO MG for Africa. The delegation also includes the leaders of the regional partners of the African NGO Major Group; whom are: Mr. Kofi Kankam; the Regional Organizing Partner of the NGO MG in West Africa, Mr. Paul Okumo; the President of “Africa Platform” Association, Mr. Henry Orikot; member of the Permanent General Assembly in the AU-ECOSOCC (the Regional Organizing Partner of the NGO MG in East Africa), and Mrs. Judith Kaulem; the Executive Director of the Zimbabwe Poverty Reduction Forum Fund (the Regional Organizing Partner of the NGO MG in South Africa).

In the context of the HLPF, Maat and the African group is organizing several side events to discuss the achievements in regard to the sustainable development goals in the African continent. In addition to; organizing a number of visits and high-level meetings with officials of international organizations, UN bodies and missions of member countries concerned with African relations.

 The African group comprises five sub-groups (South-East-North-Central-West Africa). Maat is the chairman of the whole African Group since its election last March. It also serves as the Permanent Secretariat of the Group.

This year’s Forum will discuss five sustainable development goals 2030, namely Goal 6 on ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, Goal 7 on Renewable Energy, Goal 11 on inclusive Cities and Societies, and Goal 12 on sustainable consumption and production patterns. And finally, the 15th goal on sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.
