Statement on the events in Libya:Libya is safe… Not divided

TELEGHRAPH,Maat for Peace: Development and Human Rights and the Regional Coordinator for North Africa condemns the recent events of the armed terrorist attack on the oil-Crescent of Libya by an armed group in action that threatens security and stability and ignites the flames of strife among the Libyan brothers and may push the country into civil war clashes.

Maat for Peace considers with deep concern, condemning and denouncing developments taking place in Libyan territory and follows with great interest the stages of peaceful transition in Libya.

Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights and the Regional Coordinator for North Africa, of  NGO Major group for Africa, call on all parties to adopt a policy of renunciation of violence and extremism and instead pursue peaceful and negotiated solutions to end the crisis that the country is undergoing.

Maat appeals to all stakeholders to do their part to calm the situation and spread messages of cooperation and peace as a means of development. It emphasizes that peace and stability are the means to achieve sustainable development goals. These conflicts and terrorist operations represent the greatest challenge to the development of any country. Killing, violence and destruction lead to the collapse of States and the eradication of the dreams of their youth.

It should be noted that the Major Group of Africa is a grouping of all NGOs on the African continent, one of the continental clusters of the United Nations High-level political forum on achieving sustainable Development goals 2030. This group falls under one of the specific sectors of the NGO Committee. The group is also working to unite the voice of African civil society in to support sustainable development goals by dividing Africa into five regions representing the entire continent.
