“Girls of the Sun” is a 2018 French drama film directed by Husson. It was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

This crudely didactic drama about Kurdish women fighting the Daesh terrorist group emphasizes misogynist pain and degradation at every chance.

Talking to media, Husson said her main message was to raise awareness of the inhumanity of Daesh with Izadi women in Iraqi Kurdistan and the tragic adventures of captive Kurds women and children.

According to this famous French director, the courage of Kurdish women in the armed struggle with Daesh really impressed her and, therefore, decided to portray the corners of these heroic struggles.

Husson is a director and writer, also known for “Bang Gang” in 2015 and “Hope to Die” in 2004.

The cast of the “Girls of the Sun,” includes Golshifteh Farahani as Bahar, Emmanuelle Bercot as Mathilde and Erol Afşin (de) as Tiresh.

The films directors from different countries, especially the production of 2017 and 2018, in two sections including the World Cinema Competition (International); comprising feature and short films; documentary, animated and experimental, and the Kurdish Cinema (national) comprising feature and short works; documentary, animation and experimental will participate in the festival.
