40 organizations from different countries officially declare the foundation of  “The International Alliance for Peace and Development”

Teleghraph ,Geneva :  On Wednesday, 28 February 2018, Geneva, the Swiss city, witnessed the announcement of the establishment of “The International Alliance for Peace and Development” by 40 civil society organizations from Europe, Africa, Asia and the Arab region on the sidelines of the 37th Session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The members of the International Alliance for Peace and Development held the founding meeting during the period from 26 to 28 February 2018 with the participation of the founding members from several countries. All the organizational, legal, and institutional aspects of the alliance were discussed and the future map of the alliance activity during the next phase was decided. The activities were concluded by the signing of the official document of foundation which was officially launched inside the United Nations headquarters in Geneva in four languages: Arabic, English, French and Spanish.

 Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights has initiated the call for the establishment of the alliance in September 2017 in conjunction with the revival of the World Peace Day. Rapidly, Several leading organizations in peace defending, sustainable development, and human rights issues from various countries met the call and expressed their willingness to participate in the alliance . The Founders decide later to hold an expanded institutional meeting in Geneva to discuss the institutional measures necessary to establish the Alliance.

The official foundation document sets out the vision for the International Alliance for Peace and Development namely” A world without violence, hatred, fanaticism or extremism, and an international partnership for peace and sustainable development”. The document also sets out two months to complete the adoption of the regulation where a specialized committee was formed to prepare it according to the proposals of the members and based on it  the first general assembly and the election of the governing bodies of the alliance will be held. The founding document, which is signed by all members, included a mandate for Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights (Egypt) to manage the international Alliance Peace and Development until the election of governing bodies

The document also noted that member organizations – with their leading position in their countries – will promote the vision, mission and objectives of the Alliance, through the implementation of at least one activity per organization per year. It was also agreed that the Alliance will hold an annual international forum entitled “Unite for Peace “, as well as agreeing to adopt a specific communication strategy on Alliance issues and concerns.

It is worth mentioning that The International Alliance for Peace and Development seeks to promote peace, support sustainable development across the world and to combat hatred, violence and extremism and work closely with UN mechanisms and actors around the world to achieve its vision within a framework of coordinated action, integration and cooperation.
