“Opening of “Mena” Film Festival in the Netherlands with poems by “Biddle Dehlavi

The 4th edition of the Dutch International MENA Film Festival “The Hague” (MENAFF 2021) was opened on May 20th by the secretary and festival director Mohammad Amin. This Iraqi poet lives in the Netherlands and performed a concert of poems: “Bidel Dehlavi” and “The Murder of Lahore” and songs and pieces of Indian subcontinent folklore.

The opening film of the festival was Reveries of the Solitary Actor by Hamid Benamra, follwed by a performance by Satyakam Mohkansing with artists from the Netherlands, India and Afghanistan. This talented violin player was accompanied by singer Ilyas Nadjafi and tabla player Tarang Poddar. The aim of the concert was to establish a connection with the musical heritage of the Indian subcontinent and with Persian lyric poetry, which has continued to play a valuable role in the cultural atmosphere of the people of this geographical region.

The festival opened online at 6pm on Thursday (May 20, 2021) due to the outbreak of the Corona virus and will continue until Saturday. June 1, this year (May 22, 2021) will continue with the screening of films by Iranian directors and other countries around the world. Films from Iran, Argentina, Iraq, France, Brazil, Chile, Tunisia, Morocco and Spain will compete for awards at this year’s festival.
