Shankersinh Vaghela will support Ahmed Patel, says Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia
According to Gujarat Congress’ senior leader, Arjun Modhwadia, Shankersinh Vaghela has assured the party of supporting Ahmed Patel in the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls.
The Gujarat Congress is facing its worst ever crisis as 6 of its MLAs have resigned from the party.
“Shankarsinh Vaghela has quit Congress party’s primary membership. But, he has assured Ahmad Patel and other leaders that he will support Ahmed Patel”, said Arjun Modhwadia, Senior State Congress leader.
Shankersinh Vaghela’s son Mahendrasinh Vaghela is still in Gandhinagar, and has not flown to Bengaluru. On being asked why is he still here, he said, “It looks like the Congress trusts me lot. That’s why I haven’t got any call to join them”.
Mahendrasinh will meet all other Congress MLAs who left for Bengaluru, once they are back to Gandhinagar. “After consulting other MLAs, we will take a final call, but so far I haven’t got any call either from the Congress nor from any other party”.
This Rajya Sabha election has turned into a matter of prestige in Gujarat. Stalwart leaders like BJP’s National President Amit Shah, Union Minister Smriti Irani, and Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel are in the fray.
The Congress party claims to have enough strength to send Ahmed Patel again to the Rajya Sabha. However, the BJP will ensure a bumpy ride for the veteran Congressman.
